MANAGING COMPANY TACTICAL OPERATIONS SERIES:

DECISION MAKING

Objective:     DECISION MAKING is the second in a series of three courses designed to develop the participant's attitudes, knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively provide initial command, and to implement and manage tactical operations during structural firefighting operations.

Description:    DECISION MAKING examines the critical elements of situational assessment and decision making for structural firefighting operations. Key content includes the command sequence; size up (with a particular focus on fire behavior prediction); assessment of resource requirements; critical, strategic, and tactical decisions; and action planning.

Flexible Scheduling: Departments may choose to schedule the complete Decision Making course or may choose any one or more modules. Course times are estimates and will vary depending on size and participation of the audience.

Certificates: Students who complete all modules of this course will receive a National Fire Academy Certificate.

AAS Degree program: Students who complete all modules of the MTCO Decision Making Course and pass a final exam will recieve 1.0 college credit hours for FRT 156.

Module 1 The Command Sequence 2 hours
Module 2 Size-Up 3 hours
Module 3 Developing An Action Plan 2.5 hours
Module 4 Implementing The Action Plan 2 hours
Module 5 Introduction to the Incident Command System 2 hours
