FRS 2052 FIREFIGHTER SURVIVAL & RESCUE
Clock hours 16 hours

Course Description:
This intensive training course was developed in response to
the tragic deaths of many firefighters across the nation in the past several
years. Many o those who perished did so because they could not get out of the
fire building or area where they were working. We train our firefighters in
confined space, hazardous materials, infectious disease control, and the
incident command but until now there was no training course that teaches
firefighters how to save their own lives. The Firefighter Survival and Rescue
courses are designed to fill this void by reviewing conditions and
situations which may pose a risk to firefighters and by teaching firefighters
how to help themselves in emergency conditions.
FIREFIGHTER SURVIVAL
This course, adopted by the Kentucky Fire Commission, is mandatory for personnel joining the fire service after July 1st, 2000, and we recommend this course for all firefighters. This class shows different techniques a firefighter can use when the primary escape route becomes blocked or if caught in a rapidly deteriorating situation. Techniques will emphasize self rescue tools regularly carried by or available to the firefighter. Studies of actual firefighter fatalities will be reviewed with an emphasis on the lessons learned.
FIREFIGHTER RESCUE
This course, adopted by the Kentucky Fire Commission, is required for personnel joining the fire service after July 1st, 2001, and we recommend the course for all firefighters. This course will concentrate on safely removing a trapped or unconscious firefighter from a burning structure, which can be a labor intensive operation. This course will show methods that can be used to remove firefighters who have become victims themselves. Students will review OSHA requirements for "2 in 2 out" and be shown how to set up a rapid intervention team in their own department.
